HEALTHCARE REFORMS IN UZBEKISTAN Uzbekistan has developed a healthcare system in recent years focusing on ensuring social protection and creating general and specialised medical services. Recent reforms have led to various advances in the country’s medical services, including the introduction of free, high-quality emergency care, a network of rural health centres, perinatal facilities, and screening centres.

Through the International Development Association, in April 2011 the World Bank approved a loan of 93m USD for Uzbekistan’s Health 3 project, repayable over 35 years. Uzbekistan’s Government contributed a further 37m USD, along with around 23m USD worth of tax breaks and customs benefits, to the project, which is expected to be in development from 2011 to 2016.
